It is indispensable for our own identity as designers to be aware of our profession’s history and know our precursors and their work. designaustria’s commitment to ‘Austria as a design nation’ also necessitates that we know about Austria’s role in history. The EC Design History deals with the past, present, and future of Austrian design and makes research findings publicly accessible – be it through events or publications. The books ‘Austrian Graphic Design in the Twentieth Century’ (in German/edited by designaustria) and ‘Graphic Design from Viennese Modernism to the Present. From Kolo Moser to Stefan Sagmeister’ (in German), both written by Anita Kern, provide a reliable basis for subsequent research.
