From December 18, 2024, to February 9, 2025, the Red Dot Design Museum in Essen will host the exhibition “Best of Austrian Design”. The exhibition showcases award-winning design projects from Austria that have received the Austrian State Prize for Design and the Austrian Interior Design Award.

The exhibition “Best of Austrian Design” highlights key themes such as progressiveness, social relevance, and sustainability, emphasizing the added value of design in both social and ecological contexts. The exhibition not only aims to raise awareness of exceptional design but also strengthen Austria as a focal business hub. The goal is to reach both the business community and wider public, drawing their attention to the potential of Austrian design and to enhance its visibility on an international level.

The Austrian State Prize for Design is awarded every two years by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Economy. The competition is organized by designaustria, a knowledge center and advocacy group for design in Austria. This award recognizes innovative and creative three-dimensional design and contributes to fostering design awareness within the Austrian economy.

The Austrian Interior Design Award is presented by the Building Innovation Cluster (BIC) of Business Upper Austria. Its purpose is to highlight excellence in interior design. The BIC, founded in 2000, is a network supporting companies in the furniture and wood industries and has extensive experience in managing large-scale projects.

With this exhibition in Essen, the high quality of Austrian design will be showcased to an international audience, further strengthening Austria’s position as a leading design hub.
