The designforum Vienna is presenting for the first time HIROSHIMA APPEALS, a poster campaign in remembrance of the atomic bomb dropped over Hiroshima on August 6, 1945.
The series of thus far 23 posters, all created by Japanese designers, was initated in 1983 by the Japan Graphic Designers Association Inc. (JAGDA) in cooperation with the Hiroshima International Cultural Foundation.
The project was running from 1983 until 1989 and was then revived in 2005 due to the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II. Every year, a new design is being published as a warning against violence, war, hate and misanthropy.
The project is meant for keeping alive the memory of the “Spirit of Hiroshima” and promoting world peace.
Alle 23 bisher im Rahmen der Aktion entstandenen Entwürfe führender japanischer Plakatgestalter sind im Sommer 2020 in einer Ausstellung im designforum Wien zu sehen.
